PARENTS & CARERS

Working in Partnership with Families

At Fast Forward School, strong communication with parents and carers is an important part of supporting each young person. The school aims to build positive, respectful and open relationships with families so that everyone works together in the best interests of the learner. The handbook says communication should be regular, clear and reliable, with information shared in a way that is easy to understand and responsive to the needs of different families.
HOW WE WORK

Communication and Support

Fast Forward uses a range of communication methods to keep parents and carers informed. This includes phone calls, emails, letters, reports, review meetings and home visits where needed. The handbook identifies Nicola Ryan, Pastoral Support, and Pippa Corcoran, SENCO, as key contacts for routine communication with families, and states that non-urgent enquiries are normally responded to within three working days.
Parents and carers are encouraged to share relevant information about their child, including anything that may affect wellbeing, learning or safety, and to raise concerns through the appropriate channels so they can be dealt with smoothly and effectively.

Day-to-day School Information

Fast Forward aims to provide families with clear practical information to support day-to-day school life. The handbook explains that:
There is no compulsory uniform, although clothing should be practical and suitable for school
Mobile phones are not permitted during lessons
Breakfast and lunch can be provided at no extra cost
The school does not provide transport directly, but can support with council transport forms where needed
Further practical information, including routines and expectations, is available through the school office and parent handbook.

Attendance, Wellbeing and Safeguarding

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding. The handbook says families should inform the school of absences in a timely manner and work with staff where additional support is needed to improve attendance. The school monitors attendance closely and works in partnership with families and outside agencies to reduce barriers and help learners attend successfully.
Where there are concerns about a learner’s safety or wellbeing, the school will act in line with its safeguarding procedures and work with parents and carers appropriately, unless doing so would increase risk to the young person.
